New Buzz Word: Bee Pollen
Bee pollen... The new buzz word in the health community. We all know what normal pollen is, so what's bee pollen? Why is it so good for me? And how would I consume it?
Well, we're here to answer those questions!
What is Bee Pollen?
When the honey bee is venturing out among the flowers, they will place pollen flakes onto their back legs. When she returns to the hive, these flakes get combined with nectar to create bee pollen.
This bee pollen is then collected in reasonable amounts, leaving enough for the bees in order to avoid harming the colony. Using what’s called a pollen trap, the pollen is collected from the bees as they enter the hive.
Bee pollen granules vary in colour and size based on location, the plant it was received from, and the climate. This presents us with an array of yellow, orange and amber granules.
Why is Bee Pollen Good for Me?
Bee pollen is considered natures multi-vitamin. This is because it contains various vitamins, such as vitamin B, but also minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc, and amino acids.
In fact, bee pollen contains practically all the nutrients needed for humans to be healthy, considered as a ‘complete food’.
Bee pollen can help to both improve or simply maintain general well-being. Various studies have explored how bee pollen can assist with inflammation, fighting infections and bad bacteria, and boosting immunity.
Bee pollen also has antioxidant properties which can aid wound healing.
The magic doesn’t stop there! Bee pollen is also great for fighting fatigue and may improve physical strength. It’s a natural energiser, helping to boost speed and stamina.
It helps to balance hormones, which is great for menopausal symptoms and weight management. Additionally, due to its metabolic properties, it can assist in increasing metabolism.
